Bar and Club Scent Marketing in Singapore: Lulu’s Lounge

Lulu’s Lounge is a 1930s Shanghai-inspired supper club, cocktail bar and cabaret venue at 208 South Bridge Road in Chinatown. Scent Swirl scents the venue with two fragrances: a sensual ginger lily in the lounge and a fresh mint in the restrooms, each chosen for the role that space plays in a night out.

The Venue

Lulu’s Lounge first opened in 2017 at Pan Pacific Singapore as a 1960s New York-themed late-night bar, created by Joshua and Sarissa Schwartz of SJS Group, the team behind Employees Only Singapore and Bang Bang. After closing during the pandemic, it reopened in June 2026 in a heritage shophouse within Terra Southbridge Hotel, re-imagined around the glamour of 1930s Shanghai.

The room is built for atmosphere: velvet booths, jade tones, lacquer and mirrored surfaces, and a baby grand piano at its centre. Lighting moves from warm and low at dusk to high-energy by midnight, and the programme runs from dim sum and cocktails made with ingredients such as osmanthus, baijiu and jasmine tea through to live jazz, cabaret, burlesque, drag and DJ sets.

What the Space Called For

A venue this deliberately designed engages sight and sound at every turn. Scent is the sense that completes the story, and in a bar it has two different jobs to do.

In the lounge, the fragrance needs to sit inside the theme: warm, sensual and slightly theatrical, present enough to be part of the experience but never competing with the food, the cocktails or the performers. In the restrooms, the job is different. In a busy late-night venue, the restroom is where a guest’s impression of cleanliness and care is quietly confirmed or lost, so the fragrance there needs to read as fresh and clean.

The Approach

Lounge: ginger lily. A wall-mounted diffuser carries a ginger lily fragrance through the main room. Ginger lily is a lush white floral with a warm, spicy edge, which suits the velvet-and-jade 1930s Shanghai setting and adds a sensual note to the supper club mood without overpowering the drinks or the dim sum.

Restrooms: mint. The restrooms are scented with mint, a crisp, clean fragrance that signals freshness immediately. Using a deliberately different scent from the lounge gives each space its own identity, so the restrooms feel clean and cared for while the signature ginger lily stays reserved for the main room.

Both fragrances come from Scent Swirl’s DROM-sourced library, which is IFRA-certified, Halal-compliant and pet-safe. As with every Scent Swirl subscription, refills are forecast on consumption and delivered ahead of time, and the venue’s team tops up the diffusers themselves in about a minute, with no technician visits to schedule around opening hours.

Why Zoned Scenting Works in Bars and Clubs

Bars and clubs are some of the most sensory-designed spaces in hospitality, yet scent is often left to chance. A considered fragrance in the main room reinforces the concept guests have come for, while a separate fresh scent in the restrooms supports the perception of cleanliness in the area most likely to let a venue down late in the evening. Matching each fragrance to the role of the space, rather than running one scent everywhere, is the approach Scent Swirl recommends for nightlife venues.
