Dental Clinic Scent Marketing in Singapore: Azure Dental
Azure Dental is a boutique, family-friendly dental clinic at 22 Sixth Avenue in Bukit Timah, a short walk from Sixth Avenue MRT. Scent Swirl scents the clinic as part of a patient experience built around hospitality.
The Clinic
Led by Dr Prashanth Kanakamedala, Azure Dental treats adults and children, from general dentistry and wisdom teeth to orthodontics and Invisalign. The clinic is known for its hospitality: coffee and tea for waiting patients, music in the background, and a play area where patient coordinators keep younger children occupied.
What a Dental Clinic Calls For
Dental clinics have a distinctive clinical smell, and for many patients that smell is the first trigger of anxiety, often before they reach the chair. Ambient fragrance in the reception and waiting area replaces that cue with something warm and welcoming, and supports the calm, hospitable atmosphere a family practice is trying to create.
What the Research Shows
Controlled studies in dental waiting rooms support this. Lehrner and colleagues found that patients exposed to an orange fragrance in the waiting room reported lower anxiety and a more positive mood than patients in an unscented room (Physiology & Behavior, 2000), and a follow-up study found similar effects for both orange and lavender (Physiology & Behavior, 2005). Scent is not a replacement for good clinical care, but it is a low-effort way to make the waiting experience easier.
