Office Reception Scent Marketing in Singapore
A Singapore-based professional services firm with a CBD office and a regular flow of high-value client visits wanted to improve the sensory quality of its reception and client-facing meeting spaces — creating an environment that signalled quality and attention to detail from the moment clients arrived.
The Brief
The firm occupied a well-appointed floor in a modern Singapore CBD building. The design and furniture quality were high, but the olfactory environment was dominated by the building’s HVAC system — a neutral, slightly antiseptic quality typical of commercial air conditioning that was inconsistent with the quality impression the firm wanted to make.
The brief was focused and specific: improve the ambient scent quality in the reception area and two client-facing meeting rooms, using a fragrance that felt professional, clean, and understated — present enough to be noticed positively, subtle enough not to draw conscious attention.
The Approach
Three wall-mounted units were installed — one in the reception area, positioned to scent the space from the lift lobby entry point, and one each in the two primary client meeting rooms. Given the client brief for subtlety and professionalism, a clean woody composition from the library was selected — light cedarwood and soft vetiver with a fresh green opening note, sitting in the warm-woody family but at a lighter, more contemporary register than a full oriental composition.
Diffusion schedules were set to run during core business hours only — from 30 minutes before the firm’s opening time through to 30 minutes after close — with a slightly lower rate in meeting rooms to account for the enclosed space and extended client occupancy during meetings.
The Outcome
The most direct feedback came from the firm’s own partners, who noted that several clients had commented positively on the office environment during visits — remarks about the space feeling “calm” or “well put-together” that the partners attributed in part to the improved ambient scent quality.
The firm renewed at the six-month point and added a third meeting room to the coverage plan. The fragrance selection has remained unchanged — consistent with the brief for an understated, durable ambient identity rather than a seasonal or rotating approach.
